  • The Property

The Hut @Rawsons is a peaceful, off-grid retreat set beneath Whitbarrow Scar in the Lake District. With a cosy lounge, king-size bed, outdoor kitchen, private decking, woodland bath, and a flushing toilet, it’s designed for adults seeking comfort and quiet in nature. This handcrafted hideaway is fully self-contained and accessed on foot via a woodland path, offering total privacy, stunning views, and thoughtful touches throughout.

  • The Space

The Hut @Rawsons is a unique, handcrafted glamping-style hideaway, nestled in private woodland at the foot of Whitbarrow Scar. Set within the Lake District National Park, this peaceful, adults-only retreat offers an off-grid experience where comfort, tranquillity, and thoughtful design meet.

The space is meticulously arranged across two distinct areas. The Hut features a cosy, carpeted living space with a sofa, armchair, dining table, wood-burning stove, vintage record player, board games, and double French doors that open out to the trees. Just a few steps away, the Pod serves as a restful bedroom, complete with a king-size bed dressed in Siberian down pillows and duvet, luxurious linens, a stable door, and large landscape windows offering woodland views and glimpses of Whitbarrow.

Outside, the partially covered kitchen is fully equipped with a Sage oven and grill, a portable ceramic hob, Lavazza coffee pod machine, milk frother, toaster, kettle, fridge, and sink with hot and cold running water, along with crockery, utensils, and cookware. There is outdoor seating, overhead heating, and convenient storage. Additional cold storage, including a freezer and second fridge, is available in nearby farm buildings.

Two levels of private decking provide a choice of relaxing spaces. The upper deck includes a covered veranda with an armchair, a bar-height dining table, a BBQ area, and festoon lighting. The lower deck offers an inviting lounge with an outdoor sofa,

armchairs, coffee table, soft furnishings, and more lighting to enjoy long evenings outdoors.

Bathing facilities blend comfort with character, including a flushing toilet in a woodland-style cubicle, a hot outdoor shower, and a freestanding woodland bath with both hot and cold water—perfect for a soak beneath the canopy or under the stars.

There is no Wi-Fi at The Hut by design, encouraging you to disconnect and slow down. However, strong mobile signal is available for those who need to stay connected. Your stay includes everything you need for a comfortable start: bed linen, towels, bathrobes, tea, coffee, milk, breakfast basics, and a well-stocked pantry. A supply of firewood, kindling, and firelighters is also provided, with more available to purchase if needed.

Whether you are curling up by the fire, enjoying a morning coffee surrounded by birdsong, bathing under open skies, or setting off on the many walking trails just outside the door, The Hut @Rawsons is a place to restore, reconnect, and truly unwind in nature.

  • Getting Around

Rawsons is conveniently located just a 14-minute drive from Grange-over-Sands train station, offering easy rail connections along the West Coast and through the South Lakes. Kendal train station is also nearby, giving you access to more frequent services across Cumbria and beyond.

While public transport is generally a bit limited, local taxi services and Uber do operate in the area, we always recommend pre-booking whenever possible, especially in the evenings or on weekends!

If you’re planning on travelling by bus, the nearest stops are on the A590, a short drive or 15 min walk away, with routes like the 530 and X6 providing links to Kendal, Barrow, and surrounding towns.

With the M6 just 10 minutes away via Junction 36, Rawsons is ideally placed for those looking to head into the Lake District or passing through on their way South towards Manchester/London or North towards Scotland.

  • Guest Access

The Hut is entirely self-contained, private, and separate from the main house. Guests have exclusive use of The Hut, The Pod, the outdoor kitchen, both upper and lower decking areas, the private woodland bath and shower, and all comfort facilities provided.

Access is on foot via a 150-metre grass track from the parking area. The route includes natural terrain and steps, so guests should be comfortable walking on uneven ground. A wheelbarrow is provided to help transport belongings.

Secure parking and bike/paddleboard storage are available at the main farmhouse.

Electric bike hire can be arranged nearby.

Once your booking is confirmed, we’ll send detailed directions and arrival information. On the day of arrival, you will be met by your host for a smooth check-in.

If you’re visiting with friends or would like additional space, The Room @Rawsons , a separate retreat for two, can also be booked alongside The Hut.

  • Additional Information

The Hut is non-smoking and non-vaping throughout the property and surrounding woodland. Please note that the space is not suitable for children or infants.

We cannot accept pets and respectfully ask that you leave your furry friends at home for this particular trip! While pets are not permitted due to resident farm dogs, highly recommended local kennels are available for day boarding or full care during your stay.

Book a stay of 3, 4, or 5 nights at The Hut @Rawsons, enjoy -20% off the nightly rate. If you’re looking to make the most of your time in the Lakes, we’d love to welcome you for 6 nights or more with a -30% discount. • Local Area

Whether you prefer a gentle woodland stroll or a more challenging hike up to panoramic views over the Lyth Valley and Morecambe Bay, the area offers endless opportunities to explore.

The nearby village of Levens, just a short drive away, provides everyday essentials and is home to the historic Levens Hall and its famous topiary gardens. The area also boasts a remarkable food scene. Pure Magic.

One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed!!! Like a luxury tree house with hot water and all the extras.
Highlights included:
– The duvet – like sleeping under a cloud
– The hot outside shower (and the bath)
– The wood burning fire
– All the little touches that made our stay super magical

WOW.

Jan and her family were so lovely and accommodating – you had ANYTHING you could ever ask for, from eggs, to freshly baked bread, bubblebath, shower gel, shampoo, coal, coffeee machine, kettle, board games… condiments, prosecco, orange juice and so much more! I brought my marmite jar but there was even one there! The only thing we didn’t like is how short our stay was!! If we had had more annual leave, we would’ve stayed longer.

Our Stay at the Hut

Oh my goodness, where do I even begin?! Our stay at The Hut, was just pure magic from the moment we pulled up. Seriously, it felt like stepping right into a fairytale – so unbelievably cozy, welcoming, and every single detail was just perfect for kicking back and relaxing.
