The Space
Ridgestone is very proud to present yo you Whitbarrow Lodge, an elegant four-bedroom country house set within the Lake District National Park, offering a rare blend of historic character, generous living space and beautiful natural surroundings. Dating back to 1740, this former gentleman’s residence sits within its own gated approach and enjoys elevated views across gardens, woodland and open countryside.
Inside, the house showcases classic Georgian proportions and original features throughout. High ceilings, sash windows, ornate cornicing and historic inscriptions sit comfortably alongside modern comforts, creating a home that feels both grand and welcoming.
The heart of the house is a striking formal dining room, perfect for long celebratory meals and special occasions. An original limestone fireplace with a wood-burning stove anchors the space, while oak panelling and period flooring add warmth and depth. This leads through to the kitchen, a bright and sociable room with countryside views, cream cabinetry, marble-topped island and cherry woodwork surfaces. Banquette seating offers a relaxed spot for breakfast or informal dining, with doors opening out to the terrace.
The drawing room is a true centrepiece. Spacious yet cosy, it features a tray ceiling, large windows and a second wood-burning stove set within an imposing limestone fireplace. This is a wonderful space for quiet evenings, social gatherings, or simply relaxing beside the fire.
The ground floor also includes a utility room with laundry facilities, a downstairs WC and a tucked-away study featuring an original working safe, ideal for remote working or quiet moments.
Upstairs, four beautifully appointed bedrooms enjoy high ceilings and far-reaching views. The principal bedroom is particularly special, with dual aspect sash windows, an elegant dressing area and a luxurious bathroom with a deep slipper bath and walk-in shower. The remaining bedrooms are thoughtfully arranged with a combination of en suite and family bathroom access, offering flexibility for families or groups.
Outside, the gardens extend the living space beautifully. Set within approximately half an acre, the grounds include lawns, mature trees, woodland areas, a large pond and a picturesque waterfall. A sweeping terrace wraps around the rear of the house, providing the perfect spot for alfresco dining, morning coffee or evening drinks while taking in the views. Wildlife sightings are a regular delight.
